Mechanical Plate Movement
Mechanisation of the filter press invariably includes our plate movement system which is
infinitely variable for use on our sidebar or overhead design and also fully adjustable to
accommodate polypropylene or cast iron plates. A unique feature of our system is the hold
back facility so that only one plate at a time is transferred with a positive stacking
when deposited.

FILTER CLOTHS
Natural Fibres
Cotton was once the main fibre selected and is still used when conditions permit. They
make a good joint between the plates and are obtainable in a wide variety of weaves,
weights and counts.
Cotton
(An optimum working temperature of 100°C (dry heat) is suggested but many users obtain
satisfactory service at even higher temperatures).
Cotton cloths are suitable
for most materials, such as aqueous, spiritous, oils, fats, waxes, etc., where there is no
appreciable acidity or caustic alkalinity. They can, however, be attacked by mildew when
left wet and unused. They can also be attacked in some special circumstances where other
spore organisms are prevalent, although in most cases precautions can be taken to obviate
infection.
Johnson-Progress are able
to supply cotton cloths in a wide variety of weaves such as plain, twill and broken twill
and a range of weights from 1-24 ozs. per square yard, in various counts. This range is
designed to cover every possible requirement.

FILTER
PAPERS
These can be supplied in many
special grades of crepe or plain, normal or wet strength. When used on filter presses they
are usually supported by a cloth and in many cases, where no cake is formed, their
function is to protect the cloth and obviate the necessity for removing the cloths and
washing the deposits from them. The papers are usually changed after each pressing.
Blotter papers for the
filtration of trans-former oils, etc., are not used in association with cloths but
generally as pads of three or four papers for each face of the press. Papers in
general give finer filtration without filter aids than cloths but in some cases will
restrict flow. Filter pads and mats are supplied in various porosities and sizes.
They are cut and punched to suit filter presses and sterilizing filters. Laboratory
filter papers are supplied in a range of qualities and diameters, specialist papers being
made up for particular requirements.

USF EDWARDS & JONES
| PUMPS Specifically designed for the
arduous duty of pumping ceramic slip, the "Willett" positive displacement
vertical ram pump has a long and distinguished history in this industry. This sturdy unit
is used in 1,000s of installations throughout the World on transfer duties, filter
press feed and for feeding casting slip ring mains.
The pumps hydraulic
power pack gives automatic flow control when feeding filter presses and fixed flow when
feeding casting slip ring mains. The hydraulic drive ensures minimum power usage
regardless of flow or pressure.
Inlet/outlet valves can be
the gravity seal ball type or the spring loaded "Stalk" design. Ball valves are
usually polyurethane covered cast iron with solid polyurethane seats. Stalk valves can be
offered with nylon coated and stainless steel components.
For applications where it
is essential to avoid contamination fully lined pumps are available.

| Blungers,
Mixers & Agitators HIGH SPEED
First patented by Edwards
& Jones, this unit revolutionised clay blunging. Ball and China Clay, Sanitary Ware
Casting Slip, Floor and Wall Tile Body and Returned Scrap can be blunged in 20 minutes -
at least 7 times faster than more conventional methods.
Blunging and Dispersion is
achieved by a unique Rotor and Stator. The drive unit, mounted on a substantial cast iron
crossrail, consists of a specially designed heavy-duty top steady housing, vertically
mounted motor and vee rope drive, to give a shaft speed of 650 r.p.m.
The Blunger assembly is
usually mounted on an octagonal or hexagonal tank, but can be supplied ready for fixing to
your existing tank. As one High Speed Blunger is capable of replacing several conventional
type Blungers, substantial savings can be made in time, energy, space, capital cost and
labour.
MEDIUM SPEED
For the Blunging &
Mixing of various types of Ceramic Bodies particularly those having a High Pint
Weight/Specific Gravity and where it is necessary to avoid particle size reduction.
The blunger shaft, which
rotates at 200 r.p.m., has horizontal arms fitted with vertical shear end plates which can
be adjusted to suit different bodies.
The machine is extremely
efficient for the direct preparation of Sanitary Ware Bodies, Casting Slip and Tableware
Bodies, etc.
SLOW SPEED
The Edwards & Jones
Conventional Blunger has proved its versatility, reliability and efficiency in the
blunging and dispersion of all types of Lump, Ball and China Clays, Refractory Clays,
Press Cakes, Casting Slips and Return Scraps etc.
It consists of a fabricated
centre dolly fitted with replaceable mild steel arms and knives and is driven via a worm
reduction gear box.
AGITATORS
Usually of the paddle or
gate type - the most suitable design for keeping in suspension small particle solids up to
relatively high concentrations.
They are simple in design,
inexpensive to run and can be supplied in sizes ranging from 914mm x 914mm up to 4267mm x
4267mm. Drive is provided by a worm and wheel gear box which is designed specifically for
this type of agitator. |
